In a world gravitating towards modernity in culinary trends, restaurants with sleek, contemporary interiors are becoming prevalent.  Monotone colors, hues of black and white combine with textures like brushed steel and sharp glass to create a minimalistic effect.  This trend carries over often into the clean-cut presentation of dishes and even the style of service.  These developments are welcomed and enjoyed, yet, Shakespeare and Co., a colorful little café born in the Middle East, has stubbornly carved out its own niche in the upscale-casual sector without conforming to these modern food and beverage trends.  Utilizing stylistic elements popular during the Victorian era, especially the Rococo artistic movement, Shakespeare and Co. deviates from the norm with its own fun and fanciful interior that is a tribute to the charm of the past.  Having won and been nominated for multiple dining awards including Time Out and What’s On, Shakespeare and Co.’s aspiration to revive a bygone era has proven to be a recipe for success.
 

The café-restaurant continues to expand internationally, opening its first outlet this week in Beirut, Lebanon, a place where tradition and hospitality are appreciated and honored by many.  Entering the café, patrons are greeted with Victorian sofas, French chairs and antiqued coffee tables.  The ambiance created is reminiscent of a grandmother’s carefully manicured living room.  Vibrant colors give just enough of a modern twist to keep the look fresh and whimsical.  The extensive menu boasts nearly 200 items from which to choose, with a focus on home-style, comfort cuisine.  While there are many health-conscious choices, the menu’s core is composed of classic dishes such as Lasagna al Forno, Cobb Salad, Traditional Fish and Chips and Apple Tart.  The Lebanese Breakfast and Saj Selection are a tip-of-the-hat to the café’s Middle Eastern origins.

To reach the Shakespeare and Co. location in Beirut, travel on Dbayeh Highway towards “Junction 5” center.  Shakespeare and Co. can be found just opposite just opposite the ABC Mall and Le Mall.   The booming area is home to the Dbayeh Marina and the much-anticipated project, Dbayeh Waterfront City.  The area was carefully chosen by the franchise partner SUGL Sal as it is well-known for its touristic appeal, commercial buildings and variety of restaurants.  Growth in the hospitality sector in this area is anticipated over the following years and the management team looks forward to scoping out more locations in the near future in Lebanon.

Shakespeare and Co. has finally made its way to Sharjah! Our 14th branch will be opening its doors in Sharjah University City tomorrow morning. The location has a full Shakespeare and Co. patisserie as well as a terrace. This newest outlet is located in the Matajer Mall in the Juraina area. Later this year, look for another opening in Fujeirah.

With a panoramic view of the Dubai Marina, Shakespeare and Co. has opened its doors in the Dubai Marina Mall.  Over the last 5 years, the Dubai Marina area, along with the surrounding areas of JLT, JBR, Media City, Knowledge Village, Tecom and Internet City, has grown to be the bustling home of many residents and businesses. 

The location inside Dubai Marina Mall has seating for up to 80 patrons, including the spacious curved terrace.  The façade prominently features a full-service Patisserie Counter while the spacious main dining area has vaulted ceilings with fuchsia, turquoise and black lace decor inspired by a turn-of-the-century French boudoir.  A Floral Creations stand welcomes guests at the entrance along with a variety of chocolate arrangements.  Shisha is available at this location, but on the terrace only.

The romantic Shakespeare and Co. location in Arabian Ranches opened early in 2012.  The vaulted ceilings, rose-laced windows and staircase give the feeling that you are stepping into a scene from Romeo and Juliet.  Later in 2012, Shakespeare and Co. will be opening in 2 more Emirates, Sharjah and Fujeirah.

In July, a new location will be opening in Sharjah, in the Matajer al Juraina, near the university area. Shakespeare and Co. is making waves in Muscat, Oman, as it prepares to open its first cafe-restaurant this summer at The Wave, Muscat, the Sultanate’s premier lifestyle destination.  Located in the heart of Muscat along a beautiful 6km coastline, the development is one of Oman’s most desirable as a place for living and recreation.

The opening of Shakespeare and Co. at The Wave, Muscat by mid-summer, will be a first for the Omani market, offering a new comprehensive café-restaurant experience for Muscat diners.

The diverse menu and quirky style will appeal to the diverse range of upscale-casual diners both residents at The Wave and from around Muscat.  The spacious 3,600 square foot restaurant will have both indoor and outdoor seating, as well as a private family dining room.  In addition to the cafe-restaurant, a full patisserie will be incorporated into the concept at a later stage.  The menu variety will include specialty breakfast items such as eggs Benedict, fresh salads, pizza, main courses and desserts.  “The success of the Shakespeare concept in the UAE can be partly attributed to the comprehensive menu selection that is reflective of the international diversity of the region.  The senior management believes that the Omani franchise will achieve similar success by targeting a market characterized by increased diversity through immigration as well as a growing disposable income,” said Suzanne Blake, Director of Sales and Marketing.  Views of the Almouj Marina and an intricately designed interior will make this restaurant a unique destination for tourists as well as residents in Muscat.

Shakespeare and Co. recently opened its second location in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi.  This outlet will be the second cafe-restaurant in Abu Dhabi, and the 11^th cafe-restaurant in the UAE. The spacious location is positioned on the ground floor in Guardian Towers, and will appeal to a clientele base in the Al Rehham area. 

Shakespeare customers will find it conveniently located in a prestigious area of Abu Dhabi between Muroor Road and Old Airport Road.  Within the immediate vicinity are the prestigious American International School and French Schools, as well as the embassies of Jordan, Syria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United States, and Syria.  Also nearby is the Hyatt Capital Gate Hotel which is Abu Dhabi’s newest landmark, as well as the Abu Dhabi National Convention Center [ADNEC]. This newest outlet in Abu Dhabi includes seating for 230 people, a Floral Creations shop and a dedicated family room.  The full menu will be available, as well as a full pastry and chocolate line.

Just before Eid al Fitr, Shakespeare and Co. opened its first Cafe-Restaurant in the city of Al Ain.  Located in the new wing of the Al Ain Mall, this will be the chain’s second location in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.  The growing city of Al Ain, home to several tourist attractions, the UAE University and a variety of industries, is witnessing strong development in a variety of economic sectors that will boost the growth of food and beverage retail.  This Shakespeare and Co. Cafe-Restaurant, the company’s 10^th establishment in the UAE, will be one of the largest Shakespeare and Co. outlets to date, providing seating for up to 180 guests.   

To accommodate families and ladies, this location features a private family dining room.  “The family-friendly layout at the Al Ain Shakespeare and Co. location makes it possible for clients to enjoy an intimate conversation over coffee or a meal.  Each corner, section and room is intricately designed with the customers’ privacy and comfort in mind,” said Suzanne Blake, Director of Sales and Marketing.  The outlet also features a full-service flower shop, headed by the company’s experienced Dutch florist, and a patisserie filled with a variety of cakes, pastries and chocolates.  The management team at Shakespeare and Co. looks forward to further establishing its presence in Al Ain and integrating with the local community through catered events. 

Spurred by the growing popularity of the Shakespeare and Co. outlet in the Central Market Mall in Abu Dhabi, the management will continue to build a presence in the capital.  Later this year, Shakespeare and Co. will open a second outlet in the city of Abu Dhabi.  This spacious cafe-restaurant will be located in Guardian Towers, in Al Rehham, near the American and French International Schools.  Plans to further develop the brand in the Northern Emirates are ongoing, with more Dubai openings scheduled for later in the year.  

Shakespeare and Co. is pleased to announce the rollout of our 2011-2012 menu.  Featuring over 15 new menu items, there is something for everyone to try.  For the health conscious, we’re introducing four new salads, including a Caribbean salad inspired by the islands.  Weight watchers will also be excited to see the Buckwheat Spaghetti dish and the new Soya Smoothie.  For those looking for a new twist on classic comfort food, you’ll be pleased to indulge in the Farfalle Carbonara Pasta or the Charcutier Pizza.  Gourmet coffee buffs will be happy to see the addition of both hot and cold specialty coffees.

The café-restaurant’s Victorian ambiance has proved popular with clients despite “the numerous global franchises and diverse F&B concepts available in the UAE”, said director of sales and marketing Suzanne Blake.
